BUCKTOWN - When Owen J. Roberts returned to the baseball field last Monday afternoon, head coach Greg Gilbert felt there was no need to discuss the you-gotta-be-kidding-me turn of events last week.

The Wildcats apparently are a forgetful bunch, too.

Despite giving up nine seventh-inning runs in a loss to St. Pius X the first Wednesday of May, then four seventh-inning runs in a loss to Pottsgrove two days later - which dropped them out of sole possession of first place in the Pioneer Athletic Conference - the Wildcats bounced back Monday night with an 11-3 rout of visiting Upper Perkiomen.

A quality start by sophomore Tyler Setzler and three spotless innings of relief by Ryan Murphy and Jon Raymond, not to mention a go-ahead, two-run homer by Ryan Chesler and a six-run burst in the sixth that put the outcome well beyond Upper Perkiomen's reach, was enough to end the stunning two-game skid and, more important, keep OJR in contention for that PAC-10 and a spot in the postseason playoffs.

"We didn't talk about last week," Gilbert deadpanned after the Wildcats improved to 11-4, one game behind Boyertown (12-3). "There was no sense in talking about it. You do that you just take negatives into the next game.

"I'll tell you, it seems to me these guys are more confident in tight games than they are in wide-open games. Thank God we're past (last week), though."

"This was definitely a big game," added Chesler, who finished 3-for-5 on the night to headline the Wildcats' 12-hit offense. "We had to win this one because we know we have to finish strong. That's what we're focusing on ... finishing strong, getting into the postseason and taking some pride and confidence into the postseason."

OJR had opportunities to buckle against Upper Perkiomen, which took a 1-0 lead in the first and then got back to even at 3-3 in the fourth.

But the Wildcats answered in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice RBI by George Kochu (2-for-4), and went ahead 3-1 in the second on RBI doubles by Raymond and Setzler. When the Indians tied it in the top of the fourth, Kochu's single and Chesler's shot well beyond the left-field fence produced a lead the Wildcats wouldn't relinquish.

Not this time.

"We just had to keep pounding on them," Chesler said. " We had to get run after run after run."

Which they did ... against four Upper Perkio-men pitchers.

"We just stunk in all phases tonight," said In-dians head coach Ernie Quatrani, whose ballclub fell under the .500 mark (7-8). "We're not playing well. The whole evening, the whole atmostphere was not good."

It didn't help the In-dians that they stranded six runners through the first three innings, and 14 overall on the evening. They left the bases loaded in the first, sixth and seventh innings.

Owen J. Roberts, which stranded a dozen itself - including 10 through the first four turns at the plate - managed to take advantage of nine walks, a hit-batsman and four wild pitches between starter Cody Fleming and three relievers. And that was never more evident than in the sixth, when they put the game out of reach with four hits, among them Justin Englehardt's two-run triple and RBI singles by Murphy and Kochu, along with two free passes and the hit-batsman.

"Everyone had a little bit of (last week) stuck in us," Chesler said. "I think we used it against (Upper Perkiomen), and it helped."
