On Saturday, Aug. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Upper Schuylkill Valley Park in Royersford will help celebrate an amazing little insect, the butterfly. The park’s sixth annual celebration will include information on tagging, feeding and raising butterflies. This year, the park is hosting local butterfly expert Ron Richael as he shares his expertise on attracting butterflies.

Mr. Richael will be doing a presentation at 11:15 a.m. and will be available afterward to answer questions. His book, Attracting Butterflies: A Handbook for Butterfly Gardening, will be for sale.

Fun for the kids will include hands on activities, face painting, a butterfly themed craft to make and take home and butterfly bingo at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12 p.m. If the weather allows, the butterflies will be released at 12:45 p.m. so they can begin their journey before winter.

This program is suitable for all ages. There is a $4 per person suggested donation. This event is weather permitting as all of the activities will be held outdoors. Visitors should park in the lower lot by the Schuylkill River and follow the pathway to the activities in the Wildlife Center. Handicap parking is available in the upper lot. Picnic tables are available for use by the river for those wishing to bring a lunch.
