After 15 years working for Holland America Cruise Line, West Reading resident and world traveler Ed Walsh recently started his own travel company. In January of 2008, Walsh's Vived Cruises/Vived Travel was up and running.
His travel agency offers potential travelers consulting, booking and lecture services.
Walsh, who has been traveling the world since 1992, said other travel agents cannot offer what he does.
"There is no one like me. I am not your typical travel agent. I have hands-on world traveling experience," said Walsh.
Walsh, who was a radio personality and sold life insurance, became interested in "seeing the world" after he went on a cruise with his family at 27-years-old.
"It was a great time. The next year I booked another trip. I fell in love with the sea and the world opened up to me in a whole new way."
Walsh's traveling experience includes working as a staff member for Holland America Cruise Line and eventually cruise director and a shore excursion manager.
He also has given "Destination Lectures" for Celebrity Cruise Line as well as becoming a regular on the "Comcast Tonight" show offering viewers traveling tips.
After his ventures on the cruise ship, he settled into his West Reading apartment wondering what to do next.
Living by his motto "you have to make things happen," his dream of owning his own travel company became a reality.
"I had it [his own travel agency] in the back of my mind," said Walsh. "One thing lead to another and it was a gut instinct."
